Nevertheless, this did not prevent them from becoming very popular. This was due to several factors, one of which was the layout with a front-mounted engine and front-wheel drive. The cars turned out to be more compact than the archaic "Zhiguli" and significantly lighter, thanks to foreign components, many of which were made of aluminum.
