VAZ Classics is an extensive family of passenger (and in some cases, cargo) cars that were produced from 1970 to 2012. The total number of units produced exceeded 17 million. By this indicator, the car is the most massive in the history of the Soviet and later Russian automotive industry.

A bit of history

The first model in the family was the VAZ 2101 or "penny", which was released in 1970. A year after that, another modification, number 2102, appeared - this was a station wagon. In 1972, the assembly of the luxury version 2103 began, which, after a series of modifications, turned into the 2106.

Significant changes in the exterior and interior occurred in the early 80s. The car received the number 2105 and differed from its predecessors, developed on the basis of the Fiat 214 platform, with more modern equipment. The luxury version 2107 began to be produced in 1982, and two years later, the VAZ 2104 station wagon appeared on the assembly line. The models were discontinued in stages. The version 07 managed to hold out the longest, with production continuing until 2012.

Note that the production of "Zhiguli" was established not only in the USSR and Russia but also in Egypt. There, the last car rolled off the assembly line in 2014.
