The Czech company Skoda began its history in the distant 1985 year. At that time, it was called Laurin & Klement, named after its founders. At the first stage, the main activity was the repair and production of bicycles. Moreover, the manufacturer paid special attention to quality, ordering components from renowned manufacturers.History of formation
The first full-fledged car was the VOITURETTE, which was released in 1905. It was equipped with a V-shaped engine of its own design and had only 7 horsepower. For further development, the founders hired a staff of engineers who continued to develop new models. It is noteworthy that a significant part of the produced equipment was supplied to the Russian Empire.The First World War left its mark. The company reoriented to military needs, and a considerable number of employees went to the war zones. After that, a crisis occurred, which significantly reduced interest in personal cars. But during this period, the demand for agricultural machinery increased significantly. As a result, the production of an automated plow was mastered.
Key events occurred in 1924. The first was the purchase of a license for the production of aircraft engines. The second was a major fire at the plant, which became the reason for the search for a reliable partner, initiated by the shareholders. As a result, this partner became Škoda Works. And already by the end of the 20s, all products were produced only under the Škoda brand.
New stage of formation
Due to the merger of the two companies, production capabilities increased significantly. As a result, the plant acquired a conveyor line, which was capable of producing up to 45 cars per day. This also contributed to the update of the model range, which received a lightweight frame, independent suspension, and a number of other innovations that improved driving comfort.During World War II, the plant's premises were under German control, which used them to create equipment for military purposes. In 1945, the plant was nationalized and renamed AZNP. But all the models produced were still marked with the same brand - Škoda. In the following years, intensive production of cars continued, including both well-known models and new ones.
New cooperation
After the collapse of the USSR, the company again faced difficult times. The opening of borders to foreign manufacturers, a large flow of used vehicles, technical lag behind many countries of the world - all this forced Škoda to seek a new partner. And this partner became the German Volkswagen. Initially, it owned only 31% of the shares, and by 2000, it became its full owner. At the same time, not only the trademark was preserved, but also the development of unique models continued.Thanks to constant financial support, the introduction of new technologies, and personnel training, Volkswagen brought Škoda to a new level of development with corresponding capitalization.
Škoda in Russia
In 2004, the first official office was opened in Moscow. And two years later, the construction of a plant near Kaluga began, which started operating in 2009. In 2012, another plant was opened in Nizhny Novgorod. It is noteworthy that almost all produced models (98%) were sold in the country. Therefore, it can be safely said that Škoda in the Russian Federation is one of the people's cars, which requires regular maintenance.
