Serial production of the Skoda 100 Series was carried out from 1969 to 1977. The car was a compact model with a rare layout for that time period, with the power unit located at the rear.Key Features
The development of the car began in the spring of 1964. The basis was taken from models previously produced by the Czech company. The truly new features were the front and rear parts of the model, as well as additional ribs on the side surfaces of the body, which further increased its strength against bending and torsion. Due to the compact size and rear-engine layout, the fuel tank was located in the front part. The engine range consisted of two power units. The base was a 4-cylinder gasoline engine with a volume of 998 "cubes", which developed 42 horsepower and 74 Nm. It worked in conjunction with a 4-speed manual transmission. An alternative was the same engine, but in a modified version with a power of 48 horsepower and a torque of 84 Nm. In addition to the engine itself, the transmission, cooling system radiator, and valve gear were located in the engine compartment in the rear of the car.Later, the line was supplemented with another version with the index 110. It was distinguished by an improved chassis with a trapezoidal suspension at the front, coil springs, and telescopic shock absorbers "all around". Additionally, the number of lubrication points for nodes and assemblies was significantly reduced, and a modern 12V battery was installed, which is still relevant today. Both cars, starting from the middle of the production cycle, were distinguished by a 2-circuit brake system and disc brake mechanisms at the front, developed by Dunlop. In the initial version, drum brakes were used.
The standard equipment of serial cars included bumpers with chrome plating, and in more expensive versions, they were supplemented with wheel caps, artificial leather seat upholstery, and rear seat belts. Starting from 1970, the range of versions included a 2-door coupe, which was equipped with a more powerful engine than the other modifications, with a volume of 1.1 liters. It also began to be installed in the sedan from January 1971, distinguished by the presence of an electric windshield washer and folding rear side windows. 14-inch wheels were standard for this and other versions.
