Unlike its predecessor, its development was handled by the Malaysian company Perodua, but using technical solutions and an aggregate base from Toyota, which significantly reduced the costs of implementing this project. Its cost was only $126 million, which is extremely small by the standards of the automotive industry. This model is built on the modular DNGA platform, shared with the "kei cars" of the Japanese brand. But the car significantly surpasses them in dimensions and wheelbase, which is a very impressive 2455 mm by the standards of the class. Compared to its predecessor, the car's body is significantly superior to it in terms of torsional and bending stiffness, while having a substantially lower weight. The modern "cart" is combined with a very trivial chassis layout, with minimal changes taken from the predecessor. At the rear, a semi-independent beam and torsion bars are used, as well as drum brake mechanisms. A much more important difference was the engine. The predecessor did not have the possibility of installing a more powerful power unit due to the limited space under the hood. The new model, devoid of this drawback, received a 1.2-liter engine with a power of 88 hp and a torque of 113 Nm. It is combined not only with a 5-speed "mechanics" but also with a modern Toyota D-CVT variator, where, in addition to the belt mechanism and hydraulic transformer, there is a mechanical planetary gear, which is used at speeds above 60 km/h, reducing fuel consumption.

In terms of equipment, the model does not differ much from its predecessor. Perhaps the only significant innovation was the appearance of height adjustment of the steering column and a modern front console, which can be supplemented with a 9-inch screen of the multimedia system.
