The Goodyear EfficientGrip Compact summer tire is one of the novelties of the North American tire giant, which has replenished its lineup of so-called "energy-efficient" models. Its key feature is a tread pattern designed with compact passenger cars in mind, which is reflected in its name. In addition, this model is distinguished by the presence of more lightweight materials, which made it possible to significantly reduce its weight, and with it, rolling resistance.
Short braking distance on dry and wet roads
One of the innovations of this model is the appearance of a significant number of additional traction edges formed by a multitude of straight lamellas. They are formed at the moment of contact with the road surface, under the influence of which the lamellas open. In addition to the traction edges, these tread elements create numerous drainage grooves through which excess water is diverted from the contact patch to the outside of the tread, or into two wide longitudinal grooves located in the center.
Certain changes were also made to their design. Both longitudinal drainage grooves have a rounded profile, which increases the efficiency of water diversion from the contact patch.
Wide central rib
Almost the entire central part of the Goodyear EfficientGrip Compact tread is occupied by a very wide longitudinal rib. This element provides the tire with a mass of important operational characteristics. First of all, it is reduced rolling resistance, due to which the tire demonstrates excellent fuel efficiency. In addition, due to its large width, the longitudinal rib has excellent resistance to deformation, which, in turn, provides excellent directional stability and quick responses to steering wheel turns.
Main features of Goodyear EfficientGrip Compact
- the tire was specifically designed for use on compact passenger cars;
- a rigid carcass significantly reduces rolling resistance;
- excellent resistance to aquaplaning, thanks to two wide drainage grooves with a rounded profile and a multitude of transverse channels that ensure rapid and efficient water diversion from the contact patch;
- short braking distance due to additional traction edges formed by a multitude of straight lamellas;
- low weight, achieved through the use of more lightweight materials of the new generation, significantly increased the service life of the tire, while reducing rolling resistance.
