Another important difference was the absence of a Spartan interior, which at that time was "boasted" by the overwhelming majority of "classmates". The luxury inside was complemented by "passenger" handling, thanks to the presence of independent front suspension, as well as power steering, automatic transmission, radio, and air conditioning already in the standard equipment. It is worth noting the decent dynamics of the car at that time, on which an in-line six-cylinder gasoline engine with an overhead camshaft was installed. The compactness of the chassis elements and the transfer of the transfer case forward allowed significantly reducing the floor height of the car, improving the convenience of landing and handling. At the time of its appearance on the market, the Wagoneer had no direct competitors. The first attempts to make something similar were made only after 8 years by Land Rover, which offered a 2-door model of a similar concept. The Jeep version lasted on the assembly line for three decades.

New Era

For the first time, the return of the Wagoneer to the brand's production lineup was discussed in 2017 after the statements of the head of the Fiat concern. The car was supposed to compete with the Range Rover and Mercedes-Benz representative off-road vehicles. The official debut of the new model took place in 2021. The relatively long development period was due to the need for unification. Initially, the car was created on the Grand Cherokee off-road vehicle platform, but due to the large dimensions and weight of the developed model, it was decided to abandon these plans. As a result, there was a landmark return to the original concept using a pickup truck frame and a passenger wagon body. Technically, the car is related to the Ram 1500 pickup truck, sharing not only the frame but also a significant part of the mechanical components. This led to another important feature - the off-road vehicle turned out to be American-sized. In terms of dimensions, it surpasses the not small Tahoe, offering an internal space of 5.08 cubic meters. This made it possible to provide passengers in the third row with not a "childish" space, while preserving a gigantic trunk - 776 liters.

Continuing the theme of the salon, it is worth highlighting the presence of a 2-spoke steering wheel, a virtual instrument panel with a diagonal of 10.3 inches, and a "floating" 10.1-inch tablet with the Uconnect 5th generation multimedia system. Physical keys are used to control the climate control unit. Another important component of the base configuration is the upholstery of the seats with Nappa leather.

Despite the technical similarity to the pickup truck, the car has a number of differences from it in the chassis layout. In the front, a 2-link suspension is used, and in the back - a 5-link one. In the "base" version, springs are offered, which are already replaced by Quadra-Lift on the middle level of equipment. The electronically controlled pneumatic suspension "lowers" the car when parking, and on dirt roads, it can increase the ground clearance to 257 mm. In addition to it, the car is equipped with three options for the all-wheel-drive system. In the "base" version, there is a rear-wheel drive, or a clutch in the front axle drive, which can be supplemented with a reduction gear, as well as an electronically controlled "block" of the rear differential. The engine range is represented by one power unit - a 5.7-liter V8 gasoline engine, developing 397 hp and 548 Nm.
