The debut car received the internal index Mk49 and was released in 2006 using a number of components from Outlander. In particular, gasoline engines with a volume of 2 and 2.4 liters were borrowed. In addition, the engine range included a diesel power unit - an in-line "four" with a volume of 2 liters, well-known from the Volkswagen Tiguan, which was offered exclusively for the European and Australian markets. In 2011, it was replaced by the no less popular 2.2-liter OM651 engine from Mercedes-Benz. Nevertheless, the car had a lot from Jeep. First of all, it's an electronic system for controlling the all-wheel drive. It was permanent, but due to the presence of a continuously variable transmission, the gear ratio could change up to 19:1, mechanically simulating the operation of a transfer case. However, this was part of the additional equipment. In the standard configuration, the car was a station wagon with increased clearance and front-wheel drive.

The second-generation car was presented in September 2016. In the production line, it replaced two models at once - its predecessor with the Mk49 index and the Patriot. The car was built on an extended platform of the more compact Renegade, using largely the same components. Of all the presented modifications, only one was available exclusively with all-wheel drive - Trailhawk, differing in that it had all the available arsenal of electronic "assistants" for off-road, which were equipped with the larger Grand Cherokee, but without a 2-speed transfer case. In addition to the design, the principal difference from the predecessor was the engine range, composed mainly of engines from the Italian Fiat. At the same time, a significant part of them has a small working volume and turbocharging. In addition, there are several "hybrid" power plants, where a 60-horsepower electric motor and a 6-speed automatic transmission from Aisin are used in combination with 1.6- and 2-liter engines.
