The Infinity car brand belongs to the division of Nissan, which deals with the development and production of passenger cars of the "luxury" class. The first models of the brand began to be sold in the second half of 1989 in North America. By 2010, the brand's sales network included dealerships in more than 50 countries around the world.

History

The Infinity brand was introduced in the US in 1989 to expand Nissan's presence in the premium passenger car segment. At the same time, main competitors in the form of Toyota and Honda already had their own premium brands, Lexus and Acura. Meanwhile, the Japanese government had introduced export restrictions to the US, so it was beneficial for automakers to sell more expensive cars on the North American market. The Infinity brand started sales with the Q45 and M30 models. The cars were built on the latest platforms and used power units that corresponded to their status. For the Q45, this was a massive V8 with 278 horsepower. Additionally, innovative technical solutions for that time were applied, such as an active suspension system and a four-wheel steering system, where the angle of rotation of the wheels changed not only on the front but also on the rear axle. In the first years of the brand's existence, sales were not too high. This was largely due to the brand promotion strategy, which focused on increasing the recognition of its models, whose design featured calm features with a large number of rounded surfaces. Everything changed in the 2000s, when the G series appeared. Sedans and coupes of this line were positioned by the automaker as a "Japanese BMW", featuring components such as a V-shaped 6-cylinder engine with 308 horsepower and rear-wheel drive.

In 2018, a new strategy for the further development of the car brand was presented. By 2030, the brand's model range will consist exclusively of electric cars. Another change was the revision of the sales market selection. Unfortunately, Infinity remained a niche car brand, failing to break the dominance of the "big German three" in the premium model segment in the markets of Western Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. Since 2019, the brand is no longer represented in these regions. The alternative sales markets are the US, the Middle East, and mainland China.

Model Range

The current Infinity model line is not as extensive as it used to be. It includes the B50 sedan and four crossovers - QX50, QX55, QX60, and Q80. The power units are mainly represented by classic V6 and V8 engines developed by Nissan. In "hybrid" versions, a 4-cylinder engine is used in combination with a 20-horsepower electric motor. Another exception is the B50 sedan, which uses engines from Mercedes-Benz. In all versions, the cars are distinguished by decent dynamics, allowing acceleration to 100 km/h in less than 10 seconds.
