Such a set of components was due to the concept of using such pickups, which implied not so much the transportation of goods, but rather their towing. The model had a payload capacity of up to 2.6 tons, and could tow trailers with a mass of up to 7.6 tons. The presence of a four-wheel drive system reduced these values by 90-180 kg, depending on the version and year of production of the pickup.Second Iteration
In 2007, the next-generation pickup debuted. It still used the frame platform from its predecessor, but in a modified version, which received the index GMT912. Practically the entire platform was made of high-strength steel, which allowed increasing the strength of the structure in bending and torsion by 92%. The pickup received enlarged engine and transmission mounts, more powerful rear springs, and other hydraulic body mounts, as well as an updated front suspension with torsion bars of adjustable stiffness. The upper arms were made of steel, and the lower ones were made of cast iron. The appearance of torsion bars at the front, allowing to change the height of the body, additionally expanded the functionality of the pickup due to the possibility of installing a snow plow. As for the rear suspension, it used wider asymmetric leaf springs that could withstand increased loads, up to 4252 kg on the rear axle.Third Iteration
The next-generation pickup appeared in 2014. It was created on a new K2XX platform, which represented a frame made of high-strength steel using hydroforming. Another difference was the fairly extensive use of aluminum, which allowed reducing the weight of the pickup. The pickup and part of the steering components were made of "winged metal". In addition to increasing the payload capacity, another significant advantage of the new platform was the significant expansion of equipment, where various electronic systems, including a multimedia complex with a multi-channel audio system from Bose, an adaptive "cruise" with road marking control, became predominant.Fourth Iteration
In 2019, the serial production of the fourth-generation pickup began. The pickup turned out to be significantly larger than its predecessor, differing in an increased wheelbase and length. A significant part of the additional space was given to the passengers of the second row. Externally, the new pickup was distinguished by LED lighting, including special lights on the roof of the cab. The rear part differed in a reduced height of the cargo platform by 25 mm and an available as an option foldable MultiPro side, which can be used as a stand and for storing various small items, for which a special compartment is provided in its cavity. An important innovation in the salon was the appearance of a projection display with a diagonal of 15 inches with the possibility of displaying a large amount of information, including the inclination of the vehicle along both axes. The rearview mirror was equipped with a display with an image from the rearview camera. It is worth noting the presence under the hood of a modified diesel V8 engine of the Duramax family with a volume of 6.6 liters with a new intake and cooling system, which allowed reducing the heating of the power unit under high load and fuel consumption. The power and torque figures remained at the level of the previous model - 451 horsepower and 1234 Nm. The engine works in tandem with a 9-speed "automatic" from Allison. The base versions have rear-wheel drive, but as an additional option, an "off-road" package AT4 is offered, which adds a locking differential from Eaton, All Terrain tires, a strengthened chassis, and the ability to choose from several driving modes.
In 2022, the North American brand presented an updated version of the pickup. It differed from its predecessor in significant changes in the exterior, especially in the front part, where other headlights, a bumper, and a more massive radiator grille appeared. In turn, the turn signals were equipped with a "running line". Another significant change was a new salon, available starting from the SLE trim. It is distinguished by the presence of a widescreen display with a diagonal of 13.4 inches on the front console, which, together with the central part, is turned towards the driver. The instrument panel is a 12.3-inch screen, and above it, the 15-inch projection display is still located. The complex of electronic systems for driver assistance has undergone significant updates. In particular, the adaptive "cruise" and "blind spot" control system have been equipped with a mode of operation when driving with a trailer. It is worth noting the expansion of trim options due to the Dehali Ultimate. Such an external version is distinguished by darkened chrome-plated decorative elements on the body, retractable steps, and integrated into the rear board Kicker acoustics. In the salon, there was an appearance of natural wood trim.
In technical terms, the updated pickup differs in the use of a modified diesel engine with a volume of 6.6 liters. It was equipped with a new turbocharger and cylinder head, which, in combination with optimized software, allowed increasing the power to 477 horsepower and the torque to 1322 Nm. As a result, the pickup became capable of carrying a payload of up to 3.3 tons and towing a trailer with a mass of up to 16.3 tons.
