Under the hood was a 5.7-liter diesel V8 with 180 hp from Oldsmobile with an analog fuel injection system from Bendix. It provided the engine with smooth operation and comfort in managing traction. Three years later, a route computer with a gas discharge display and a small panel with 12 buttons was offered as an additional option, with which you could select the display of data on coolant temperature, battery voltage, and fuel reserve. The next-generation car, presented in 1979, differed significantly from its predecessor. As statistics showed, the most frequent buyers of the first-generation model were elderly women who wanted a Cadillac, but smaller, which limited its sales quite strongly. Most of the changes were aimed at attracting young buyers. For this reason, the car changed its platform to a modernized version of the E-body from the Cadillac Eldorado, and also got front-wheel drive, which made the rear suspension independent. In addition, the engine range included a 6-liter gasoline V8 of its own design, along with a diesel power unit from the predecessor. In the exterior, the rear part underwent the most radical update, stylistically reminiscent of sedans from the 1950s. The release of the third-generation sedan took place in 1986. Compared to its predecessor, it stood out with a transverse engine arrangement. The engine range consisted of gasoline V8s with volumes from 4.1 to 4.9 liters, combined exclusively with a 4-speed "automatic". The salon was equipped with an electronic instrument panel, representing several fluorescent displays. Along with the changed design, this did not make the car popular, which is why in 1988 it was subjected to a fairly significant update. In particular, a "sports" version of the STS with a modified suspension and steering appeared in the lineup.

Fourth Generation

In 1992, the fourth-generation sedan was presented. It was created on the so-called K-platform, which it shared with most mid-size models of premium brands. Compared to its predecessor, the car significantly increased in dimensions. At the same time, the lineup of versions was divided into two parts - the "luxury" SLS and the sports STS. The latter turned out to be one of the best in its category, demonstrating acceleration to "hundred" in 6.9 seconds.

Fifth Generation

In late 1997, the premiere of the fifth-generation sedan took place. The car again changed its platform, which retained its previous name. It again increased in wheelbase, but retained the same length, which was 5100 mm.
