Шины на Cadillac DeVille (Кадиллак)

The full-size Cadillac DeVille sedan was produced from 1958 to 2005. The name was first used in 1949, in relation to the Cadillac Series 62 trim. It was borrowed from the French language and translates to "city". In the French automotive industry of the early 20th century, it was used as a term to describe passenger cars with a closed passenger compartment and a separate driver's seat. Such vehicles were intended for use primarily in urban conditions.

Early Generations

The car debuted as a separate model line in 1959. It was a fairly large sedan even by the standards of the time, featuring huge "fins" at the rear, a distinctive roof silhouette, and a radiator grille pattern. Technically, the car was distinguished by a wheelbase length of 3.3 meters, a spacious engine compartment housing a 6.4-liter V8 gasoline engine producing 325 horsepower. Additionally, the standard equipment included 15-inch steel wheels, power steering, automatic transmission, electric windows, and front seats. During the year, more than 53,000 units of this model were sold, accounting for about 37% of Cadillac's total sales.

A Different Concept

The departure from the original concept began after the fuel crisis that broke out in the early 1980s. The car introduced in 1985 was significantly smaller in size and changed its layout, losing the rear-wheel drive. An important innovation was the transverse placement of the "atmospheric" V-shaped "eight", which was done for the first time in relation to a mass-produced passenger car. All this was the result of using the new C-Body platform, which, among other things, provided extremely efficient use of interior space. This made it possible to maintain the salon volume at almost the same level as its predecessor, and the absence of a tunnel under the propeller shaft provided a flat floor. The initial engine range included not only traditional for this model gasoline V8s with a volume of 4.1 to 4.9 liters but also a 4.3-liter six-cylinder diesel engine. However, such modifications did not gain significant sales, which is why it was decided to abandon them just a year after the start of mass production. It is also worth noting that at that time, this model was the only one in General Motors where you could get a V8. Similar sedans from Buick and Oldsmobile were equipped with V-shaped "sixes" with a volume of 3 to 4.3 liters.

In 1999, the car underwent a radical update. Along with a new platform, it received a different design, featuring more streamlined shapes, which allowed reducing the drag coefficient to 0.30. Another important feature was the appearance of a large number of electronic "assistants". In particular, for the first time in the industry, the serial production of a night vision system developed jointly with Raytheon was mastered. The infrared camera was located behind the radiator grille, and the image from it was displayed on the windshield using a projection display. But technically, the car retained a close connection with numerous predecessors. In particular, "atmospheric" 8-cylinder gasoline engines of the Northstar family with a volume of 4.6 liters were still used in combination with a classic 4-speed hydromechanical "automatic". In this form, the sedan existed until 2005, after which it was discontinued, and its successor became the Cadillac DTS.
