One of the most significant advantages of the Landsail Ice Star IS37 winter tire is that it was initially developed for SUVs and crossovers, i.e., from scratch, rather than being based on a passenger car tire. This allowed for better adaptation of its design to vehicles with a high center of gravity and increased weight due to all-wheel drive transmission and size. The result of this approach was excellent traction properties, handling, and acoustic comfort for its price range.
Porous Compound
The tire's tread is made of a rubber mixture containing a large number of microscopic voids. They are used as pumps, capturing and retaining moisture from icy or wet surfaces. This significantly improves traction properties in adverse road conditions. At the same time, they do not weaken as the tread wears out, thanks to the uniform distribution of these voids throughout the compound. Another significant advantage of this solution is improved elasticity at negative temperatures. Along with the effect of silica on the rubber mixture, this also significantly improves traction in winter conditions.
3D-Lamellas and Stud Installation
The next progressive technological solution implemented in this model is 3D-lamellas. The side walls of the grooves have numerous protrusions that, by hooking into each other, fix the lamellas in an open position when in contact with the road surface and at the same time limit the mobility of the blocks. As a result, the traction properties on ice not only increase but also become very stable. They can be significantly improved with the help of studs. The manufacturer has provided over a hundred places for their installation. Each of them is equipped with 6-angled protrusions for crushing and faster removal of ice chips. The stud installation sites are arranged in such a way that during movement, 14 so-called "anti-skid chains" are formed.
Key Features of Landsail Ice Star IS37
- Porous compound dries the contact patch and improves elasticity at negative temperatures;
- 3D-lamellas provide reliable traction properties on ice;
- when equipped with studs, 14 "anti-skid chains" are formed;
- stud installation sites are equipped with 6-angled protrusions for crushing and faster removal of ice chips;
- zigzag-shaped side walls of blocks increase stability during maneuvering on snow;
- angled, curved shape of drainage grooves increases resistance to aquaplaning and slush planing.
