The Cordiant Business CW2 winter commercial tire belongs to a line of new generation models that are exported. It is targeted at buyers in Northern Europe and Scandinavia, being adapted to operate in a cold climate. It demonstrates excellent characteristics, from ice grip to extended service life.
16-row stud arrangement
The tire's tread features a record number of studs, at least for Russian commercial tires. To meet European requirements, the developers followed the same path as their Finnish colleagues, reducing the size of the hard alloy insert that contacts the road surface. Increasing the number of studs allowed forming 16 continuous rows, which provides the tire with worthy traction properties on ice, even comparable to those of the best passenger models.
Development using 3D modeling
The tire's design was fully developed using modern 3D computer modeling technologies. The Russian manufacturer has been applying a very powerful software and hardware complex for several years, which allowed selecting the optimal combination of tread design and materials from thousands of options, ensuring an effective balance of operational properties.
2-layer tread
Along with leading tire manufacturers, the domestic company applies a 2-layer tread. This model, despite its utilitarian nature, also uses this progressive technology. The part of the tread that contacts the road surface is made of a rubber compound with a composition that improves traction properties on low-temperature surfaces. It also includes components that increase the tread's resistance to wear. The lower "base" layer is made of a less elastic compound with lower hysteresis losses, which reduces heat generation and rolling resistance, resulting in extended tire life and improved fuel efficiency. Additionally, the higher stiffness of the "base" compared to the tread improves handling characteristics.
Variable lamella density
The tire's tread is literally covered with lamellas, but their density decreases from the central part to the shoulder areas. This solution is dictated by the specific operating conditions of commercial tires. The developers tried to increase the tread's resistance to uneven wear with this feature. Reducing lamella density in the shoulder areas promotes more even load distribution across the contact patch.
This has hardly affected the tire's efficiency on icy surfaces. The number of lamellas is sufficient, and these tread elements also increase the tread's resistance to aquaplaning due to the formation of multiple sharp edges, drying the contact patch and improving traction properties in icy conditions.
Key features of the Cordiant Business CW2 tire
- 16-row stud arrangement and several thousand lamellas improve traction properties in icy conditions;
- increased resistance to uneven wear, including due to variable lamella density;
- 2-layer tread with an elastic tread and a rigid "base" provides an ideal balance between traction, durability, and fuel efficiency.
