The Acura TLX is a compact luxury sedan. It has been produced since 2014 and is currently the flagship model in the Japanese brand's passenger car lineup.

First Generation

The car, which debuted in 2014, was based on the mid-size Accord sedan of the 9th generation, essentially representing its upgraded version, primarily intended for the North American market. Subsequently, this affected sales, which were not very good. Compared to European versions, the sedan was distinguished by its engine range, starting with an in-line 4-cylinder gasoline engine with a volume of 2.4 liters, producing 206 horsepower. An alternative to it was the "atmospheric" V6 with a volume of 3.5 liters, which was distinguished by the ability to shut off part of the cylinders under low loads. Such modifications were available with a four-wheel drive system, where instead of an electromagnetic clutch for connecting the rear axle, a package of friction clutches was used, separate for each of the wheels. The 290-horsepower engine was combined with a 9-speed automatic transmission.

Second Generation

In 2021, the premiere of the second-generation car took place. To a large extent, this was "work on mistakes" and a significant risk, since the concept of the model was radically changed from comfort to handling and "sport". The key technical difference from the predecessor was a different platform, which made it possible to install a suspension with double wishbones at the front and a "multi-link" at the rear. The list of additional options included electronically controlled shock absorbers, and the track on both axles was significantly increased. Another difference was the use of steering with a variable gear ratio, as well as the appearance of an electromechanical brake booster, borrowed from the NSX supercar. The new platform has an increased wheelbase, which made it possible to shift a significant part of the components under the hood backward, improving weight distribution across the axles. The power frame of the body is 56% made of high-strength steel and aluminum, which made it more rigid, lighter, and the center of mass is located significantly lower. The engine range has also been completely revised. It starts with a turbocharged in-line 4-cylinder engine with a volume of 2 liters, producing 276 horsepower and 380 Nm. It works in "pair" with a 10-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters on the steering wheel, capable of shifting up to 4 gears in both directions. In the standard version, the sedan has front-wheel drive, but for an additional fee, a four-wheel drive transmission is available, as before, with individual clutches on the rear wheels, allowing up to 70% of the traction to be directed to each of them.
