The car presented in 1999, in essence, was a restyled version of the model with the index 400, differing from it, first of all, in its external appearance, especially the front part, which received a "British" design. The changes were due to the desire of the English manufacturer to offer buyers a compact car with a "expensive" appearance, characteristic of more larger models of the D segment. Technically, it did not differ much from its predecessor. The engine range was left almost unchanged. The "base" remained a 1.4-liter engine of the K series. In addition, the modification with a 1.6-liter gasoline engine developed by Honda was still available. Perhaps the only innovation was the appearance of a 2-liter V6 from a larger sedan with the index 75, which replaced the in-line "four" of the same volume. In addition to the manual transmission, the car was available with a stepless variator from the German ZF. It was distinguished by the presence of a toothed belt with oil cooling and rotating on self-adjusting pulleys, which provided high reliability.

Another important feature of the sedan was the suspension. The scheme and most components were borrowed from the Honda Civic, starting from the models with the indices 200 and 400. For this car, the chassis, although revised, but at the same time, the engineers of the British brand managed to preserve the "signature" character of handling for Honda compacts, which favorably distinguished this model from most competitors.
