The Rover 400 is a series of medium-sized cars that began its existence in 1990. Thanks to cooperation with the Japanese Honda, the models differed in their technical equipment.

Generation 1

The first generation of the "400" presented in 1990 was nothing more than a modified Rover 200 model. This significantly reduced the production costs of the sedan. In addition, many mechanisms were presented by Honda, which maximally unified the model. In 1994, along with the sedan, a station wagon body was also presented.

A wide range of engines were installed under the hood: gasoline engines from 1.4 to 2.0 liters. The two-liter version was equipped with a turbine. Diesel engines were represented by 1.8-1.9 liter engines.

Generation 2

The debut of the new product took place in 1995. The Honda Civic became the basis for the car, while some elements were still taken from the 200th model. It is noteworthy that the latter was now developing separately. The novelty was released first in the hatchback body, and then in the sedan.

The K-series engines with a volume of 1.4, 1.6, and 2.0 liters, as well as a 1.6-liter engine from Honda, acted as engines. The diesel engine was single on 2 liters, which "moved" from Rover 600.

The model was significantly popular, both domestically and in Europe. But over time, its sales began to decline, which served as a push for the release of a new generation to the market.

Generation 3

In 1999, a new generation was presented, which the manufacturer already attributed to the middle-class segment. Against this background, the Rover 400 was renamed to 45. The car received a wide range of gasoline engines from 1.4 to 2.0 liters, as well as a turbocharged diesel engine on 2 liters. Along with them, a manual transmission and a variator from ZF worked.

The model stood out not only for its equipment and cabin ergonomics but also for its reduced price, which was supposed to compete with other representatives of the world's automotive industry. For the same purpose, in 2004, a restyling was carried out, which slightly increased the popularity of the vehicle, but could not keep the company from bankruptcy. It happened in 2005, at the same time the model ceased to be produced.
