Tires on Plymouth (Плимут)

The Plymouth automobile brand, starting from 1928, was used by the Chrysler company and then its successor DaimlerChrysler for the production of affordable passenger car models, competitors to similar products from Ford and Chevrolet. They were in high demand until the late 1990s, mainly on the North American market. The brand ceased to exist in 2001, and the cars produced under this brand were discontinued, or continued to be produced, but already as Chrysler and Dodge.

Origin of the brand

The first car of this brand was presented on July 7, 1928, and represented an attempt by Chrysler to enter the segment of affordable passenger cars, where Ford and Chevrolet dominated. At the beginning of sales, the Plymouth Model Q was offered at a higher price, but at the same time, it offered a range of options not available from competitors. Technically, the debut car of the brand was based on the developments of Maxwell-Chalmers, a company acquired by Chrysler in the early 1920s. The previously existing model with a 6-cylinder engine was thoroughly redesigned and simplified, receiving a 4-cylinder engine and a minimal set of options, which made it possible to significantly reduce the price. In the coming depression of the 1930s, the affordable Plymouth cars did not let the entire corporation sink, which were sold under the other three brands - Chrysler, DeSoto, and Dodge. At the same time, the brand itself took third place in sales in the passenger car segment. In 1933, an attempt was made to intensify competition with Ford, Chevrolet, and Pontiac, for which a 6-cylinder engine with a volume of 3.1 liters was developed, which was installed in the new Plymouth PC 1933. Later, this engine underwent numerous modifications and was used in the brand's cars until 1959.

Decline of the brand

Throughout the 1980s, most Plymouth models were versions of Dodge and Mitsubishi cars. This led to increased popularity, but at the same time, the brand lost its former individuality, which is why sales began to decline by the beginning of the 1990s. In Chrysler, they tried to fix this by introducing a new logo and conducting a large-scale advertising campaign. However, this did not lead to the expected results, and the reduction in market share continued. At the same time, there was a narrowing of the product line, which by the end of the 1990s consisted of only 4 cars that were somehow sold - the Voyager/Grand Voyager minivan, the Breeze mid-size sedan, the Neon city compact, and the Prowler sports model, the only one not represented by other Chrysler brands. As a result, from 973,000 cars in 1973, the brand after 1990 sold around 200,000. On November 3, 1999, Chrysler announced the liquidation of the brand, and the last cars with the Plymouth logo rolled off the assembly line in 2000. These were the second-generation Neons. In addition to this model, the Prowler and Voyager continued to be produced under the Chrysler and Dodge brands. Currently, these cars are present on domestic roads in a fairly large quantity. This can be judged by the number of searches for tires by brand and model, entered by customers of the "Mosavtoshina" online store when using the automated selection system.
