The birth date of the famous GAZ plant is 1929. At that time, an agreement was signed with Ford, and the construction of production facilities began. The latter were put into operation in 1932. Notably, by this time, two models, GAZ A and GAZ AA, had already been developed, with the Ford A and AA serving as their prototypes. In 1935, the contract with the American company was terminated by mutual agreement. By this period, the plant had already produced 100,000 units of trucks.

World War II

Starting from 1939, the production of military equipment (tankettes, artillery tractors, amphibious tanks) was established, and the manufacture of mine and shell bodies, etc. was carried out.

In 1941, the plant's activities were fully focused on supporting the army. At the same time, in addition to tank equipment, numerous trucks, buses, field kitchens, and many others were produced. However, the most priority direction was the development and production of aircraft engines. It is worth noting that some of them were later installed on the T-34 due to a shortage of diesel power units.

Victory

Along with military equipment, the plant's engineers worked on civilian models. Thus, the famous GAZ-M-20 "Pobeda" came off the assembly line as early as 1946. Its name is a symbol of victory over Germany. Next came the domestic jeep GAZ 69, whose production lasted for 30 years, until 1972. And in 1956, the famous "Volga" was born, which became a people's car.

Further Development

A significant achievement was 1981, when the 10 millionth car rolled off the assembly line. Subsequently, the company constantly modernized existing models and released new ones. For example, in 1994, the first generation of GAZelle saw the light of day. This is the first one-and-a-half-ton truck produced after the war. The machine was released in huge quantities. Over time, it underwent several modifications, which were also in demand in the country and abroad.

Recently, the company has been actively developing the direction of commercial transport, producing medium-duty and heavy trucks. One of the innovations is the "Sadko Next" - a model that is designed to replace the GAZ 66.
