BYD Auto is a subsidiary of BYD Company, a Chinese conglomerate that manufactures automobiles with both internal combustion engines and "hybrid" and fully electric powertrains. The firm was founded in January 2003 after BYD acquired the Xi'an Qinchuan automobile company.

History

The first F3 model was released in 2005. Three years later, it was upgraded with a "hybrid" powertrain. This came after a series of sales declines caused mainly by issues with quality, characteristics, and component quantities. As a result, the company had to undergo a lengthy and complex process of vertical integration, primarily affecting battery production, electric motors, and electronic control systems. The holding manages lithium mines, lithium processing enterprises, and has its own computer chip production facilities. This ensures a high level of quality control and flexibility in production volumes. All this has enabled a significant increase in sales, making BYD electric vehicles the best-selling in the world, surpassing Tesla in the fourth quarter of 2023, and earlier, VW, which sold the most vehicles in China.

Model Range

In 2020, the company began an intensive update of its model range, introducing its first electric vehicle with a Blade battery, the large Han sedan, recognized as the fastest electric vehicle in China, both in the fully "electric" and "hybrid" versions. In April 2021, the company presented the ePlatform 3.0, an automotive platform for electric vehicles, which integrates and standardizes not only the main components but also the electrical system and software and hardware. The first models on the new platform were the Yuan Plus and Dolphin. The latter belongs to the so-called "oceanic" line, which includes vehicles named after marine animals. The most popular and significant for the company among them is the Seagull. Today, it is the cheapest electric vehicle in the world.
