The Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant has a rich history, which is associated with the production of off-road vehicles, minibuses, and trucks. To this day, the manufacturer occupies a leading position in the country in this sector.

History

The plant's predecessor was the ZIS, which was evacuated to Ulyanovsk at the beginning of the 1941 war. There, along with the production of shells, the production of ZIS 5 trucks was organized. As for UAZ, the plant officially began operating under this name in 1943. The "firstborn" of the new manufacturer was the UlZIS-253, which was characterized as a reliable truck for a wide range of industries.

In the 1950s, the country's leadership gave the design bureau the task of developing compact cars that could be used as trucks, ambulances, and more. The complexity lay in the fact that it was necessary to completely redo the layout. As a result, the famous engine layout under the cabin appeared, which increased the useful volume, while the transport dimensions remained the same. Thanks to this, the plant reached the international level, where its new "creation" was highly appreciated.

In 1958, the UAZ 450 was created, the prototype of which was the GAZ 69. Thus, the famous "Bread" appeared, which had many modifications for various spheres of activity.

In the 1970s-80s, the government, seeing the production successes, decided to reorganize it with an expansion of capacity. It also gives the task of developing new models. As a result, the UAZ 469 appears, which has four-wheel drive and is distinguished by its increased passability.

Electric Car

In 1974, the plant worked hard on the creation of an electric car. And it succeeded. Many scientists were involved in the project. The base was based on the 452 model, on which an asynchronous three-phase motor with a power of 15 kW was installed. The range on a single charge is 50 km. But the project did not receive a continuation and was curtailed.
Another unusual car is the "Jaguar" amphibian. Many received state awards for its development. But, despite its outstanding capabilities, the car did not receive widespread distribution and in 1991 its production was also curtailed.

Post-Soviet Period

Despite the difficult time, the manufacturer is actively developing, offering improved models. So, in 1993, the 31514 appeared - this is already a modern car with a hard roof, a redesigned suspension, and a powerful engine. It was followed by the "Bars" version, released in 1999.

In 2003, a novelty appeared - the "Hunter", which was released both with a hard top and with a soft one. Here we are in 2005, when the "Patriot" appeared. An off-road vehicle that made the modern name of the plant. A couple of years later, it underwent modifications, and in 2019, it received an automatic transmission.
