Ssang Yong Musso (which translates to "rhinoceros") is a frame-based pickup truck or SUV that the Korean manufacturer began producing in 1993. The model was developed in collaboration with Mercedes.

Historical background

The first-generation vehicle received a controversial design that combined simple "puffy" shapes, remotely resembling an African animal. Despite many opponents of such "aesthetics" in 1994 and 1996, the car received awards in the UK for its exterior.

In 2002, a pickup truck body was introduced. Its base remained unchanged, only some units were changed, providing a payload capacity of 400 kg and the ability to tow up to 3.5 tons. The pickup truck survived until 2006.

Modern era

The revival of the model, i.e., the second generation, occurred in 2018. Since there was already an SUV "Rexton" in the model line, the name "Musso" was given to the pickup truck. Note that the platform from the SUV was used as its base. In addition, it inherited engines (a 2-liter turbocharged "gasoline" and a 2.2-liter "diesel") and transmission ("automatic" Aisin or 6-speed "mechanics"). The cabin was offered only in a four-door version, and the drive could be either rear or full.

The spring suspension was able to withstand increased loads. Additionally, a version with a rear spring modification was offered, providing improved payload capacity.

In 2021, the car underwent a facelift, which added a massive radiator grille, LED headlights, as well as a set of "assistants" (blind spot monitoring, auto-lighting, lane control, etc.).
