The compact crossover MG Hector has been present in the lineup of the British brand since 2019. The car is one of the variants of the "crossover" Baojun 530, created by the joint efforts of the Chinese concern SAIC and the North American corporation General Motors. The car is one of several versions of the Chinese crossover, which is offered worldwide under different brands, including Chevrolet. The version from the British brand differs from the "original" not only in the design of the radiator grille and logos on the body. The car uses a different front bumper, and on the rear door, there is a reflective strip that combines the lights. Even more differences were found in the salon, which stands out for its more extensive equipment. It features a multimedia system iSmart with a 10.4-inch vertical tablet integrated into the central part of the front console. The head unit is equipped with a SIM card slot and provides support for 5th generation networks, along with voice control and surround cameras. Other notable features of the configuration include the presence of electric adjustments for the driver's seat and access to the salon without a key.In technical terms, the car is completely identical to the Chinese "original". Under the hood is a turbocharged 1.5-liter "four" engine, developing 143 horsepower and 250 Nm. The power unit is combined with a mechanical gearbox in the base versions and a 6-range "robot" in more equipped modifications. There is an option for a power unit with a "hybrid superstructure" in the form of a 48-volt starter-generator with a traction of up to 20 Nm, which reduces fuel consumption, helping the main unit when starting from a place and the first moments of acceleration. A unique technical feature of the British version of the crossover was the version with a 2-liter diesel power unit from the Fiat concern. The engine belongs to the MultiJet family of the second generation, representing a row "four" with turbocharging, developing 173 horsepower and 350 Nm, which is combined exclusively with a mechanical gearbox.
Modernized Version
In early 2023, the car underwent a planned modernization. The crossover was still based on the Chinese "crossover" Baojun 530, but differed from it and its other versions much more significantly. Most of the changes affected the exterior. The crossover stood out with a more massive radiator grille, other bumpers, headlights, and rear lights. The salon underwent even more thorough changes. It differed in another front console, door cards, and central tunnel trim. The instrument panel in the base version retained analog scales, but more expensive versions of the configuration received a 7-inch screen with modified graphics. They were distinguished by a huge 14-inch high-resolution display with a portrait orientation, which is not available for the Chinese "original". The installed hardware and software significantly expanded the functionality of the multimedia system. It could recognize five of the most common languages in India, open the car from a smartphone via Bluetooth, with the possibility of transferring a virtual key to other gadgets. Another innovation in the list of additional equipment was a complex of electronic assistants with an adaptive "cruise", which can automatically turn on the turn signals when moving at a low speed.In technical terms, the crossover has practically not changed. The 6-speed "robot" was replaced with a variator for the 1.5-liter turbo engine, and the version with the starter-generator was completely removed from the lineup. 17-inch wheels remained standard for this model.
