MG GT is a compact passenger sedan belonging to the C segment. It has been in production since 2014, having changed two generations over this time.

First Generation

The car was created based on the MG 5, a compact hatchback from 2012, sharing not only the platform but also most of the mechanical components. The borrowing did not affect not only the body type but also the design. The car received a more modern exterior design with a characteristic for the mid-2010s sloping roofline towards the rear, due to which the sedan had roughly the same silhouette in the side projection as a classic fastback. Another feature was the rear lights, combined by a narrow LED strip. In contrast to the exterior, the car's interior was executed in a more calm manner, being almost an identical copy of the interior of the MG 5 hatchback. Another feature was the good equipment for that time, which included a multimedia system with a touch screen and the possibility of connecting to the Internet and satellite TV. In technical terms, the car did not differ from most of its "classmates" of that time, standing out, if only for its more powerful power units. Initially, the sedan was available with a turbocharged 1.4-liter inline-four gasoline engine producing 154 horsepower. From 2015, the engine range was expanded with another engine - a 1.5-liter inline-four cylinder. Its "atmospheric" version developed 109 horsepower, and with a turbocharger - 129 horsepower.

Second Generation

In 2020, the second-generation car was released. This is still a sedan of the so-called "Golf class", but already executed in the new corporate style of the brand. The car was distinguished by a lowered hood edge and a massive radiator grille, occupying a large part of the body in the front projection, visually combined with the side sections of the front bumper. The latter can be painted in a contrasting color. The rear part retained the styling of the previous model with a sloping roofline towards the rear. In terms of technique, the sedan turned out to be a carrier of inexpensive solutions. The chassis is a combination of a front suspension "MacPherson" with a semi-dependent beam at the rear. The engine range consists of two power units, the base of which is a 1.5-liter "atmospheric" gasoline engine with 120 horsepower, which is combined only with a variator with 8 virtual switching ranges. An alternative to this tandem is a "pair" of a 1.5-liter engine with a turbocharger, developing 173 horsepower and 275 Nm, and a 7-speed robotic gearbox with two "wet" clutches.
