Isuzu D-Max – a pickup that began its history in 2002. Having changed three generations, it remains relevant to this day. In its development, apart from the Japanese company, GM also participated, providing the base for the first generation in the form of a platform from the "Chevrolet Colorado".

Generation 1

At the initial stage, the car was very similar in technical terms to its "donor". This concerned not only the appearance but also the power units, represented by 3.0 and 2.5-liter diesel engines. In 2004, along with the restyling, a model with a new "diesel" with 146 horsepower was introduced - a three-liter 4JJ1-TC with a common-rail system. A year later, a 2.5-liter unit with 116 horsepower appeared. A 5-speed "mechanics" or a 4-speed "automatic" MaxMatic was installed as a transmission.

Generation 2

In 2012, a new generation appeared, which was also very similar to the "Chevrolet Colorado". The differences concerned only the front part of the car, where a modified radiator grille and other headlight blocks were installed. The model increased in size, and its ladder-type frame became 42% stronger than its predecessor. This was reflected in the increased payload capacity and the ability to work under heavy loads without the risk of deformation. Like the previous generation, the car was equipped with rear-wheel drive as standard, but a modification with full-wheel drive was also provided.

Among the equipment, it is worth noting the traction control and stability, ABS, brake force distribution, emergency braking. This was complemented by a set of airbags, programmable crumple zones, and a rigid cabin capsule.

In 2015 and 2017, restyling was carried out. The vehicle received a new 1.9-liter turbodiesel, a new radiator grille, multimedia with an 8-inch touchscreen. Later, a projection onto the windshield and fully LED headlights appeared.


Generation 3
In 2019, a new generation appeared, the main difference of which was the platform developed jointly with "Mazda". Note that on the Japanese market, the latter presented its own model under the name BT-50. Despite its external similarity to the model of the second generation, the novelty is a completely new car. And under the hood, the 1.9-liter diesel remained, with 150 horsepower. As well as a three-liter 190-strong unit, which develops 450 Nm.


In Russia
The first generation began to be imported to our country in small batches in the early 2000s. But the full presentation took place only in 2008. The second generation was officially presented in 2016, but the high cost and complexity of subsequent maintenance did not allow the model to establish itself on the Russian market.
