The Yokohama Ice Guard IG60A winter tire is designed for owners of mid-range passenger cars. Compared to its predecessor, it features improved traction not only on icy but also on wet surfaces.
Power Contact Rib
The tread pattern is designed in an asymmetrical style. One of its key components is the longitudinal Power Contact rib. This element is enlarged in size and has no interruptions throughout its length, giving it high deformation resistance. Since this rib is located closer to the inner side of the tread, the tire demonstrates clear following "behind the wheel" and stability. The numerous and multidirectional lamellas cut into the rib enhance traction on wet and icy surfaces.
Zigzag Groove
In the center of the tread, there is a narrow zigzag groove. Due to its shape, it not only increases resistance to aquaplaning but also reduces the braking distance on wet surfaces.
High Traction on Snow
The tread pattern contains a large number of blocks. These elements are enlarged in size and turned across the direction of movement. The resulting traction edges enable highly effective realization of traction on snow.
Water-Absorbing Compound
The tread is made of a rubber mixture that has the ability to absorb moisture. This is achieved using so-called "micro-bubbles" that are evenly distributed throughout the compound's structure. When in contact with the road surface, they capture and retain moisture, thus drying the contact patch. Additionally, the rubber mixture contains orange peel oil, which enhances the durability of the tread on tear and stretch. In combination with increased silica content, this significantly improves traction on icy surfaces.
Pyramidal Lamellas
The tire features a very high density of lamella arrangement. Narrow slits separate them by just a few millimeters. This was achieved through the use of original pyramidal-shaped side walls of the lamellas. This shape limits the mobility of the blocks and reliably fixes the lamella in the open position when in contact with the road surface. As a result, the traction properties on icy surfaces not only increase but also become very stable.
Main Features:
- the Power Contact rib enhances directional stability and longitudinal traction on wet and icy surfaces;
- the longitudinal zigzag groove increases resistance to aquaplaning and reduces the braking distance on wet surfaces;
- the water-absorbing rubber mixture, 3D lamellas with pyramidal walls, and double grooves in the shoulder blocks improve traction on icy surfaces.
