The Bridgestone Blizzak Ice winter tire is suitable for almost any modern passenger car. It is based on the VRX2 model, which shares its tread design with the new product. At the same time, the use of a more modern compound has made it possible to significantly improve the traction properties on icy surfaces, as well as increase the service life of the tire.
Optimized block edge shape
One of the features of the tread pattern design is the original shape of the block edges. It increases the surface area in contact with the road surface. At the same time, the pressure on it increases. This significantly improves traction, especially on ice, where a water film forms on the surface due to friction. The block edges, due to their special shape, direct it into one of the nearby drainage grooves, thereby drying the tire contact area with the road.
Updated compound
The tread of the tire is made from the Active Multicell rubber mixture of the 2nd iteration. The difference from the compound of the previous generation is the increased porosity. This allows the tread to absorb moisture from the icy surface much better, thereby providing maximum dense contact with it. Another feature of the compound is the increased silica content, as well as the presence of special polymers. Silica provides elasticity at low temperatures. In turn, polymers provide high strength and varying molecular bond lengths between all components of the compound. As a result, elasticity is added to the increased coefficient of adhesion to any road surface and resistance to wear.
Asymmetric tread pattern
One of the key features of the tread pattern design is the increased area of the zone in contact with the road surface. This is facilitated by both the dense arrangement of blocks and their large size. At the same time, the external pressure from the weight of the car is distributed very evenly. As a result, not only traction is improved, but also its stability. In addition, such a design gives the handling reliability and predictability. Another feature of the tread pattern is the W-shaped form of the blocks in the central part. It increases the resistance of the blocks to the action of longitudinal acceleration forces. This gives the tire's behavior during acceleration and braking better stability.
Main features of Bridgestone Blizzak Ice
- increased contact patch size due to high block density and optimized tread profile shape;
- W-shaped blocks in the central part prevent slipping during braking and acceleration;
- Active Multicell 2nd generation compound improves traction on icy and wet surfaces;
- high block density provides a contact patch with hundreds of additional traction edges;
- optimized block edge shape increases their contact area with the road and pressure on it.
