The Continental ContiIceContact 3 winter tire is suitable for almost any modern passenger car. The model is offered in dozens of sizes with diameters from 14 to 21 inches in several versions, including RunFlat, ContiSeal, and ContiSilent. In addition to a wide range of choices, it is favorably distinguished by excellent traction properties on any winter road surface, durability, and fuel efficiency.
Two types of studs
The tire is offered with two types of studs. Tires with diameters from 14 to 16 inches are equipped with metal elements with an aluminum body. Products with a landing diameter of 17 inches and above have studs made using ContiFlexStud technology. The key difference of these elements is that they are placed inside an elastic shell. As a result, the stud has a certain mobility, which allowed significantly increasing the traction force on ice, reducing the level of noise and vibration in the car, and ensuring better retention of the metal element in the tread. The simpler stud option offers a lightweight aluminum body, a "diamond" shape of the carbide insert, and an adhesive compound that minimizes the risk of falling out of the tread.
Stable handling in any road conditions
The design of the tread pattern features intersecting V-shaped drainage grooves. Their volume and shape provide high intensity of water and its mixture with snow and road slush removal from the contact patch. As a result, reliable traction is achieved in complex weather and road conditions. On dry pavement, stability and handling are ensured both by the increased size of the zone in contact with the road surface and by the rigid bridges between the blocks. They limit the mobility of the tread elements, providing faster and more accurate transmission of multidirectional acceleration forces.
Optimized compound
The tread is made from a rubber mixture containing a number of original components, including rapeseed oil. Along with silicon-containing substances, it provides the tread with elasticity at negative temperatures, allowing the tire to very closely hug the smallest irregularities on the road surface. As a result, traction is improved, especially on icy and snowy roads.
Key features of Continental ContiIceContact 3
- ContiFlexStud stud for tires with diameters from 17 inches increases traction and braking properties on ice, reduces noise, and the risk of falling out of the tread;
- aluminum stud for tires with diameters up to 17 inches reduces the weight of the tire, improves traction on ice and rolled snow;
- rubber compound with rapeseed oil ensures elasticity at negative temperatures, increases the service life of the tire;
- rigid bridges between blocks increase the stability of traction and handling on dry pavement;
- V-shaped drainage grooves reduce the risk of aquaplaning and slushplaning.
