The winter tire Gislaved Nord Frost 200 SUV is one of the novelties of the Swedish brand, a joint development of the German concern Continental AG and the company Matador, owned by it. It was created based on the same model, which was significantly modernized taking into account the design features of modern crossovers and SUVs. It is their owners that it is addressed to.
The tread pattern is distinguished by an asymmetric arrangement of tread elements, which form several functional areas. Another feature is their small size. This allowed to significantly increase the number of cutting edges, which, in combination with their multidirectionality, had a positive effect on traction, first of all, on snow.
The shoulder areas of the tread contain a number of very wide and transversely arranged blocks. This solution reduces the tendency to skid when maneuvering and turning, as well as reduces the braking distance.
Many solutions in the tread design are aimed at ensuring reliable traction on icy surfaces. First of all, this is several thousand lamellas cut into each block. To limit mobility, the developers made them self-locking. Moreover, the walls of not only one lamella are fixed, but also they themselves are fixed throughout the area of the tread block. This solution significantly improves both traction on ice and handling on asphalt.
When creating this model, the features of the design of crossovers and SUVs, which are distinguished, first of all, by increased weight, were taken into account. To neutralize the negative impact of this factor on handling and traction, the design of the carcass underwent significant changes. The most significant of these was the increase in the carrying capacity of the sidewalls. Also, the breaker was strengthened, where an additional layer appeared, made entirely of steel cord.
