How it all began

In 1885, the British EG Browne and JC Margetson acquired a flour mill located on the banks of the Avon River. The joint venture was named Avon Mill and initially engaged in the production of flour. In 1890, the business moved to the city of Melksam, where it was reprofiled to produce cast rubber tires, conveyor belts, as well as various rubber products for the railway industry. Ten years after the successful activity, the company mastered the production of pneumatic tires, first bicycle and in 1906 - and automobile.

Producing a wide range of products based on rubber, the company happily existed until 1997, when it was of interest to Cooper Tire & Rubber Company. The North American manufacturer acquired the British company, thanks to which it was able to focus on its core activities. First of all, these are automobile tires, rubber technical products and protective equipment.

Currently, the company Avon is one of the largest British manufacturers of tire products. Its assortment consists of several dozen models designed not only for passenger cars but also for light commercial vehicles and motorcycles.
