The Proton Persona is a line of compact and subcompact cars. This model debuted in 1993, being one of the variants of the Wira, intended for the countries of the British Commonwealth.

First Generation

The car, which debuted in 1993, was a 4-door sedan created on the platform of the 1991 Mitsubishi Lancer. It differed from the original model only in a slightly modified exterior, with body parts, radiator grille, hood, headlights, front bumper, and fenders taken from the Mitsubishi Mirage, and rear lights from the 1987 Galant mid-size sedan. Later, the line of versions was supplemented with a 3-door hatchback and a 2-door coupe. Depending on the version, the car was equipped with in-line gasoline "fours" with a volume of 1.3 to 1.6 liters.

Second Generation

The release of the second-generation car took place in 2007, with the export name becoming the main one. The model was created on the GEN-2 platform of its own design, in a modified version, with a changed position of the middle pillar, which made it possible to increase the wheelbase by 167 mm, with 43 mm going to the passengers of the second row of seats. Additionally, the rear overhang was lengthened, which made it possible to increase the volume of the sedan's trunk to 430 liters. The car's interior was noticeably different from its predecessor, primarily due to the higher-quality materials used for the trim and the high quality of the assembly. Under the hood was a new 1.6-liter engine, producing 110 horsepower, which had previously been used in other models of the brand, but in a modified version, distinguished by increased reliability. The settings of the automatic transmission were also changed.

Third Generation

In 2016, sales of the third-generation model began. This time, the compact Iriz hatchback, which debuted two years earlier, was taken as the basis. As with the predecessor, the platform from the hatchback was modified behind the middle pillar, but at the same time, the wheelbase and height remained the same, at 2555 and 1554 mm, respectively. This largely determined the disproportionate exterior appearance of the sedan. The salon was also taken from the original model, differing only in some decorative elements. In the basic version, the sedan is offered with two airbags, a stability control system, an audio system, a conditioner, and parking sensors. The list of additional options includes upholstery of seats made of artificial leather, a multimedia system with satellite navigation and a DVD player. As with the previous model, a 1.6-liter in-line gasoline "four" with a power of 107 horsepower is installed under the hood. In the base version, it works in combination with a 5-speed manual transmission, and in other versions, it works with a variator.
