Lancia Ypsilon – a compact hatchback produced by the Italian company. The model is more focused on the domestic market, but is also partially present in some countries around the world. Currently, it is the only car of the company, which was long predicted to be closed. However, the new owner, Stellantis, assured that all small brands within it will remain operational.

History Beginnings

The first generation was based on the Fiat Punto platform and had an original interior design. The dashboard was centered (like in some Alfa Romeo models). The engines were represented by small volumes of 1.1, 1.3, and 1.4 liters. The transmission was mechanical or variator.

The car was offered only in a three-door version. There were only three basic trim levels – LE, LS, LX, which differed from each other in technical equipment. In addition, a sports version was also presented, with a lowered clearance, different gearbox settings, and more rigid shock absorbers.

The next generation of "Ypsilon" appeared in 2003. The car attracted attention with its design, economy, and technology. This was reflected in annual sales, which reached 60,000 units.

The basis for the new version was also the Fiat Punto and Fiat Idea platforms. Under the hood, petrol engines with volumes of 1.2 and 1.4 liters were installed, in addition to diesel options with volumes of 1.3 and 1.6 liters. Notably, the most powerful of them was the diesel with a power of 105 horsepower.

The latest generation, which is currently being produced, was developed even before the merger of Fiat and Chrysler. Therefore, it retains classic Italian design notes, but also adds Chrysler elements, such as a special radiator grille. In this generation, the car received a five-door body for the first time, the rear doors of which have hidden handles near the windows.

The car is now based on the Fiat Mini platform. As power units, a 1.3-liter diesel engine (95 horsepower) and two petrol engines, 0.9 and 1.2 liters, are used. Among the trim levels, it is worth noting the bi-xenon main headlights and LED markers, an autoparking system, and a "start-stop" system that shuts off the engine during even brief stops to save fuel.

In 2021, a restyling was carried out, during which the model received an updated bumper, radiator grille, and fully LED headlights. In the salon, new trim options appeared, as well as a 7-inch touch-sensitive multimedia screen with support for basic Android and Apple services. Note that a year earlier, a hybrid version was presented, which is based on a 1-liter engine with 70 horsepower and an electric motor.
