The novelty was first presented in 1968. The car's first engines were six-cylinder inline units with a capacity of 2.8 and 4.2 liters. Notably, the voluminous V12 was not offered because it simply could not fit in the narrow engine compartment. And only after Ford acquired the English company, the transport design was redesigned, and a 6-liter giant appeared in the lineups. It was installed on the sports version of the car, which had some visual differences from the "base". Also, under the new owner, the volumes and, accordingly, the power indicators of the inline "sixes" were increased to 3.2 and 4 liters.

The third generation, which began its "life" in 1994, was initially presented with old petrol engines. But three years later, they were replaced by the company's new developments - V8 engines with a capacity of 3.2 and 4 liters, which had a power of 290 and 340 horsepower. A five-speed "automatic" worked in pair with them. Among the innovations was the use of an active suspension of the CATS type.

The fourth generation, produced since 2003, opened a new era for Jaguar. The car received an aluminum body, completely new power units, the flagship of which was a 2.7-liter "diesel" with two turbochargers. In 2005 and 2007, the model underwent two restylings, which slightly changed its appearance but preserved the basic concept.

The fifth generation appeared in 2010. Initially, the cars were equipped with old engines installed on the 4th generation. Then they were replaced by a turbocharged V6 with a capacity of 3 liters, as well as a 2-liter engine with a turbine. They did not forget about the diesel, which had a capacity of 3 liters. The car was produced for many years, until 2019. Due to the company's financial difficulties, the production of the model was stopped. Notably, the manufacturer planned to release a fully electric version.
