Synthos and Sumitomo have agreed on a partnership
Polish chemical company Synthos and Japanese tire manufacturer Sumitomo Rubber Industries (SRI) have signed a memorandum of understanding and announced that they will jointly develop and test recycled rubber obtained from old tires, with the aim of further using it as raw material in the production of new tire products.
In particular, it is planned to use recycled rubber of the TyreXol brand, which Synthos produces as part of a partnership agreement with the Swiss-based company Tyre Recycling Solutions (TRS).
According to Synthos Research and Development Director Malte Wölfart, the partners will "look for ways to use the valuable raw materials produced from end-of-life tires" and "it is very encouraging that circular economy solutions are increasingly being discussed during the development of new innovations and technologies".
In 2022, the company Trinseo, which later sold its synthetic rubber business to Synthos, agreed with TRS on commercial cooperation to accelerate the development of new products from recycled tires. It is noted that Synthos and TRS have received positive feedback from leading global tire manufacturers, and the first sales of recycled rubber have already begun.
In December 2023, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Synthos and the Korean tire company Kumho.
