New labeling from Nokian

The Finnish company Nokian has repeatedly spoken out against the European Union's new labeling system, which includes rolling resistance, wet grip, and noise level. According to the company's experts, this system does not fully reflect all the characteristics of a tire that are important to the buyer, and therefore misleads them when choosing tires.

Discussing the imperfection of the EU labeling system, Nokian decided to introduce its own labeling system, which reflects the traction characteristics on ice and snow. In Nokian's opinion, this characteristic is more important. After all, when choosing winter tires, the value of wet grip is completely irrelevant. If the tire behaves well on a wet road, it does not mean that it is suitable for the winter season. That's why a consumer from the northern regions with a Nordic climate can choose a tire that is not suitable for them.

To eliminate this problem, Nokian offers its own labeling system, in which one characteristic is replaced: instead of the wet grip level, tire buyers will now be presented with the snow and ice grip level. Thus, consumers, according to Anti-Jussi Tähtinen, Director of Communications and Marketing at Nokian, will be able to make the right choice of tire for the winter season.

Of course, there is also a certain idea behind this move to gain an advantage for themselves. The fact is that according to the tests, it was found that Nokian tires have better snow and ice grip performance compared to the EU standards.
