What tires are most commonly found on winter vehicles

The state-owned company "Arctic Roads", which monitors the condition of roads in the northern regions of Yakutia, decided to conduct an unusual study and check which countries' tires are most often left damaged on winter roads.

More than 300 collected tires were inspected, and it turned out that most often, truck tires made in Russia (145 units) are left on the side of the road, followed by tires from China (99), Thailand (9), Vietnam (8), and the USA (2). Among passenger tires, most were from China (55 units), and there were also tires from Russia (33), Japan (16), Finland (6), Germany (2), and South Korea (1).

One might say that the counts speak to the reliability of tires from one country or another, but it's likely that they only reflect their popularity in the region, and in "Arctic Roads" they say that "in harsh Arctic conditions, any tire is put to the test, and here the most important thing is the price-quality ratio".

Road workers also recalled one tradition: if a tire burst on the way, long-haul truckers didn't just throw it away, but instead put a small snowball on it, and it looked like a snowman. As noted in the company, this is "a sign of respect for the path traveled and at the same time a prayer for the further road to be successful. The unusual superstition, they say, originated from drivers from Buryatia, and then spread to the east and north".
