100 Most Innovative Products of the Year 2009
04 december 2009
The editors of Popular Science have included the Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max tires in the list of "100 Most Innovative Products of the Year".
"We are very pleased that the editors of Popular Science have recognized the innovative technologies used in the production of Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max tires," said Steve McClellan, president of the North American consumer tire division of Goodyear. "Our product development process is based primarily on market research - first, we find out what kind of tires our customers need, and then we develop innovative solutions with new benefits."
"Goodyear puts a lot of effort into making sure that technologies meet the needs and desires of customers. An award like this, as well as high consumer demand for our tires, shows that we are moving in the right direction."
Mark Jannot, editor-in-chief of Popular Science, stated that the "Best of What's New" award is the magazine's main award, and the 100 winners selected from thousands of participants represent the highest level of achievement in their industries. "For 22 years, we have been awarding this award to innovations that have amazed and impressed us - those that can have a positive impact on the world today and change our opinion about what it will be like in the future."
The Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max tires feature a special fuel-saving compound that reduces energy loss when the wheel is rolling, resulting in lower fuel consumption. The tires reduce fuel consumption on the highway by 4%, meaning that over their lifetime, they allow you to drive an additional 4,200 km on the same amount of fuel.
(The data was obtained during tests in which Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max tires were compared to Goodyear Assurance tires. The tests were conducted on P195/65R15 tires installed on a 2008 Honda Civic. The warranty mileage of the tires is 105,000 km)
This year, fuel efficiency experts Helen and John Taylor set a new Guinness World Record by driving over 14,500 kilometers across the continental United States in just three weeks on Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max tires, demonstrating the potential of Goodyear's new tire compound for fuel efficiency.
The Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max tires have also been selected for use on the most fuel-efficient vehicles, such as the 2011 Chevrolet Volt, 2010 Ford Fusion S, and 2010 Toyota Prius.
The tires are also available on the secondary market, and consumers have already appreciated their excellent traction throughout the year, as well as their wide range of sizes, which makes them suitable for 80% of passenger cars.
Every year, the editors of Popular Science select 100 of the most innovative products from thousands of new products presented by manufacturers. The main condition for inclusion in this prestigious list is the innovativeness of the products or technologies, which are distributed across 11 categories: cars, aviation and space, computers, engineering, gadgets, "green" technologies, home entertainment, security, home technologies, health, and leisure.
