Williams Grove track owners have signed a new contract with Goodyear
04 december 2009
In 2010, all sprint cars (class 410) participating in extreme racing at the Williams Grove Speedway track will have to be equipped with Goodyear tires.
Representatives of Goodyear and track owner Cathy Hughes signed an agreement under which the company will become the official tire supplier for the "410 division", and the tire company will issue its certificates to all winners who used Goodyear tires.
Goodyear tires will be mandatory only for 410-class cars. Sprint cars in the 358 c.i. class will continue to participate in races on Hoosier tires.
At the same time, some participants spoke out against the recent agreement.
"The tracks should stay out of the tire business," one of the pilots, who wished to remain anonymous, said in an interview with CBS 21. He also emphasized that Goodyear tires are more expensive, and that if earlier 410-class drivers could sell their tires to 358-class car owners, now it will be impossible.
In 2010, Goodyear will also cooperate with the World of Outlaws, All Star Circuit of Champions and Knoxville Raceway tracks in Iowa. In addition, just a few weeks ago, the owners of the KC Raceway track in Chillicothe (Ohio) also signed a contract with Goodyear.
World of Outlaws championship teams have already tested Goodyear tires at the Williams Grove Speedway track in the presence of company representatives and were satisfied with the results.
"This is one of the reasons why we chose Goodyear," said Cathy Hughes. "In addition, cooperation with Goodyear will allow us to increase the prize fund."
The mandatory tires will be Goodyear G-25 Eagle in size 105/17-15 for the right rear wheel and size 97/15-15 for the left rear wheel.
