When developing the summer tire Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta SUV, the specialists of the Dutch company proceeded in exactly the same way as their colleagues working for competitors. They took as a basis the model for passenger cars, adapting its design for operation on more heavy-duty SUVs and crossovers. To be fair, it's worth noting that this entailed significant changes in the design of a number of tire elements.
Reinforced carcass
Most of the changes affected the tire carcass Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta SUV, which was significantly strengthened. It has two additional layers made of modern synthetic cord. This allowed to significantly increase the tire's carrying capacity, while avoiding an increase in its weight. Additionally, the breaker was also reinforced, which gave it additional stiffness. Ultimately, all this led to an improvement in the stability and reliability of the tire's behavior when driving at high speed.
Aggressive tread pattern
This model is distinguished by an extremely effective exterior design, which is largely the merit of the specialists from the Giugiaro design bureau, who participated in its development. Its central element is the numerous drainage grooves located in the central part of the tread. They are characterized by an increasing width from the inner to the outer side of the tread, as well as a location against the direction of movement. This made it possible to multiply the speed of water circulation through them, and with it, the resistance to aquaplaning, the risk of which is minimal even in heavy rain.
Optimized shoulder profile shape
If the profile of the central part of the tread has a practically "zero" radius, then its shoulder zones can boast a profile with a variable curvature. Its parameters were calculated using computer modeling technologies. The result of their application was the constancy of the shape and size of the contact patch, which remains almost square even under strong lateral acceleration. In real operating conditions, this allows you to control the trajectory of the vehicle's movement, passing turns at very high speed.
