Nokian Hakkapeliitta 9 – a winter tire for passenger cars that boasts a range of innovative technologies, with its studding being at the forefront.
Hybrid Studding System
The company's engineers used several types of studs, some of which are located in the central zone and others in the shoulder area. The difference in studs allowed for the optimization of longitudinal and transverse forces under various climatic conditions. This is reflected in the preservation of vehicle manageability even in extreme conditions.
Eco Stud 9
To reduce the impact of studs on the tire itself, the improved Eco Stud 9 technology was applied, which involves placing an air cushion under each stud (of which there are 190). Additionally, the presence of beveled edges on the core of each stud allows for the optimization of the load on it, which has a positive effect on the overall impact on the tire. This results in a prolonged service life of the studding with minimal loss of its elements during operation.
Green Elasto Proof
The Finnish developers also improved the composition of the rubber compound, which, in addition to silica, rapeseed oil, and natural rubber, includes a special additive called Green Elasto Proof. This component is responsible for the elasticity properties of the tire under various temperature regimes, "adjusting" the compound and ensuring the preservation of traction properties on any surface.
V-shaped Tread Pattern
The presence of such a tread pattern in combination with a drainage system, represented by various lamellas, grooves, and channels, ensures rapid self-cleaning and preservation of vehicle manageability under any conditions.
