The Finnish manufacturer positions the summer tire Nokian Blue SUV as a universal model for SUVs and crossovers. This is indeed the case, but only in terms of applicability. The tire is offered in a very wide range of sizes, with dozens of options, and is designed for those crossovers and SUVs that are operated primarily on paved roads. It is in these conditions that it demonstrates all its advantages, which include traction on wet roads, fuel efficiency, and durability.
Reinforced sidewalls
This model was created based on the same tire designed for regular passenger cars. The main difference from it is the construction of the sidewalls, which was adapted for operation on heavier crossovers and SUVs. They have been significantly strengthened thanks to the use of an additional breaker layer made of aramid fibers. The cord made of this material, despite its small weight, is characterized by very high resistance to mechanical stress, elasticity, and tear resistance. All these properties have been fully transferred to the sidewalls, which has had a positive impact on the reliability of the tire.
Multifunctional lamellas in the center of the tread
In the longitudinal ribs of the central part of the tread, a large number of lamellas are cut. A number of design features allow them to perform several functions at once. These include their location at a significant angle to the direction of movement and special extensions on one side. When in contact with the road surface, these tread elements not only form a multitude of additional traction edges but also, in rainy conditions, direct water away from the contact patch into one of the nearby longitudinal drainage grooves. This process is reminiscent of the work of windshield wipers, which similarly sweep water off the windshield. This technology, called Hydro Grooves, significantly increases the tire's resistance to aquaplaning.
Water-absorbing grooves in the shoulder zones
Another technology aimed at increasing resistance to aquaplaning is Trumpet Grooves. Its essence lies in the special shape of the transverse drainage grooves located in the shoulder zones of the tread. They expand towards the central part of the tread. This feature significantly increases their throughput, which in turn improves the traction properties of the Nokian Hakka Blue SUV tire on wet roads.
Low noise level
During the development of this model, much attention was paid to ensuring a maximum high level of acoustic comfort. To achieve this, the Finnish tire manufacturers used several seemingly insignificant technical solutions. First and foremost, this is the original profile of the walls of the longitudinal drainage grooves. They contain numerous semicircular depressions, making their surface similar to a golf ball. Their main functional purpose is to prevent the formation of vortices in the air flows passing through the drainage grooves at high speed. The absence of these vortices significantly reduces the level of high-frequency noises, which has a positive effect on the level of acoustic comfort.
Increased reliability
In addition to the walls with depressions, the longitudinal drainage grooves have so-called "stone removers" - special blocks of miniature size. They prevent stones and other foreign objects from getting stuck, which, when moving at high speed, can cause damage to the tread, thus providing the tire with increased reliability.

- The innovative silica-containing rubber compound Black Coral Silica maintains elasticity at an optimal level over a very wide temperature range, making traction stable and predictable in any conditions, as well as preventing punctures and cuts, and reducing noise levels on uneven roads.
