Distinct from other representatives of this lineup, the Hankook i*Pike RC01 winter tire differs both in appearance and internal design. Its existence is due to the specificity of operating conditions for passenger cars in areas north of the Arctic Circle, for which significant changes in the design were required to adapt.
Improved resistance to aquaplaning and slushplaning
Drainage grooves are located at a significant angle and against the direction of movement. This allowed for a substantial improvement in the speed of cleaning the contact patch from water and snow masses.
Wavy lamellas
The tread of this tire is equipped with wavy lamellas. The design of their walls significantly reduces the mobility of the blocks. This allowed for a significant increase in the density of the lamellas' arrangement, which in turn led to an increase in the number of grip edges.
Additional ice grip
If necessary, the tread of this tire can be equipped with studs, for which special places are provided for their installation. The studding scheme involves the formation of more than ten so-called "anti-skid chains". In combination with wavy lamellas, this allows for confident movement on icy roads.
Main features of Hankook RC01 i Pike
- excellent performance on ice due to the possibility of installing studs, effective removal of ice debris, and wavy lamellas;
- angled and wide transverse blocks in the central part and shoulder areas of the tread improve traction characteristics on snow;
- drainage grooves at an angle and against the direction of movement provide fast and effective removal of water and snow masses from under the contact patch.
