Tire specifications
DescriptionDescription Continental ContiWinterContact TS 870
The Continental ContiWinterContact TS 870 winter tire is designed for compact and mid-size passenger cars. It belongs to the so-called "friction" models, intended for use on snowy and icy roads. In such conditions, it is distinguished by improved traction properties and precise handling. It is also characterized by good fuel efficiency and a long service life for its class.
Compared to the previous model, the tread pattern has undergone significant changes. It remained directional and V-shaped, but it has a larger number of blocks that have significantly decreased in size. The increased number of traction edges, mainly transverse, allows for more effective implementation of traction and braking effort, especially on snowy surfaces. A similar improvement has occurred in terms of resistance to aquaplaning and slushplaning. The number of drainage grooves located between the blocks has also increased. At the same time, their shape has changed, providing the tread with the ability to intensely clean itself from snow masses that get stuck in it.
The Triple Sipe technology has been applied to the tread. The essence of the innovation lies in the use of three types of lamellas. In the shoulder areas, classic slits with wavy edges are used. Their shape increases the resistance of the blocks to deformation, which improves traction when maneuvering. The central part contains lamellas that additionally dry the contact patch, draining water through internal channels to adjacent grooves. And the third type of slits are the so-called "activators" that contribute to the formation of traction edges on the entire surface of the blocks, until actual contact with the road surface.
Key Features of the Continental ContiWinterContact TS 870
- increased number of blocks improves traction and handling on snow;
- three types of lamellas provide confident behavior on any slippery surface;
- optimized tread profile and dense block arrangement in the central part improve traction on dry surfaces, reduce wear.

Quiet, grippy on snow (they plow very well with a directional tread), dry asphalt, wet asphalt, rise very late and do so smoothly, behave well in transition periods of zero or light plus, hold the road perfectly, no sidewall collapse even if it's not an XL tire, brake well on everything except ice. On ice, the behavior is predictable but there are no miracles, for ice you need studs or slow driving, that's all.
In general, excellent European tires, as it seems to me the tests are not lying, it feels like a top-notch solution for mild winters, I recommend, if you can buy and want top-notch tires for the South, take them without hesitation.
