The winter tire Continental ContiWinterContact TS 860 S is designed for passenger cars of various classes. It is a modified version of the same-name model, differing from it by the possibility of operation when the internal pressure is lost due to mechanical damage. It is characterized by high efficiency when braking on slippery surfaces, cross-grip properties on snow.
RunFlat from Continental
The letter S in the tire name indicates the presence of the SSR system in its design, which is the German manufacturer's own version of the RunFlat system. It differs from ordinary tires by the presence of cavities in the sidewalls. They are filled with a special reinforcement based on rubber. In case of loss of pressure inside the tire, it prevents the sidewalls from folding, allowing you to reach your destination or service at a speed not exceeding 80 km/h.
Adaptive rubber compound
This model features the Cool Chili compound, which has repeatedly proven itself to be excellent. Its current version further increases the efficiency of the tread during longitudinal accelerations. The rubber compound includes special polymers. Acting at the molecular level, they change the elasticity of the tread, increasing it during longitudinal accelerations and reducing it during uniform movement. As a result, exceptional stability of grip properties is achieved in any road conditions.
Short braking distance on ice
The tire uses the Liquid Layer Drainage technology. Its essence lies in optimizing the configuration of both the drainage grooves themselves and their location. This allows for the maximum rapid removal of water from under the tire. First, the vertical lamellae collect and direct it into the nearby grooves, and then it is removed beyond the tread through drainage elements in the central part and shoulder areas. At the same time, the height of the edges formed by the lamellae is sufficient to penetrate the water film formed on the surface of the ice. As a result, the tire not only has a dry contact patch but also the ability to grip even the smallest irregularities.
Cross-grip on snow
This model also features the Snow Curve+ technology. These are 3D lamellae that work as a single unit within one tread block. They not only form numerous grip edges but also use them to compact and hold snow, thereby preventing, first of all, lateral skidding. The effect is multiplied, as only in the contact area with the road there are about 1,000 such lamellae.
