Continental tires are approved for Porsche Macan
Continental develops cooperation with Porsche, and for the electric Macan crossover, three tires from the German brand were approved: SportContact 6 for fast driving enthusiasts and CrossContact RX, which stand out for their increased comfort level, as well as WinterContact TS 860 S, designed for use in the winter season.
Porsche has the most confusing system for designating approved tires, and they don't get by with just one or two letters or symbols. All tires for the electric crossover received the NE0 marking. In this abbreviation, N means that the tires were developed for Porsche; E indicates homologation for the Macan; and 0 means that the first version of the tires was approved. If the tire is upgraded by the manufacturer, the marking will change to 1, and so on. This is done because for optimal vehicle operation, tires with the same N-code should be used.
Continental SportContact 6 tires are designed to provide optimal traction and safety at high speeds — up to 350 km/h. To make the tires suitable for use on powerful sports cars, a rubber compound that enhances grip and an asymmetrical tread pattern that improves handling, as well as a reinforced construction, were developed for them. The tire belongs to the UUHP class, and two size options with a 21-inch diameter were approved for the Macan.
The Continental CrossContact RX tire not only improves comfort but can also be used year-round in regions with mild winters, thanks to the tread pattern with additional lamellas. Furthermore, the groove arrangement scheme is designed for rapid water drainage, which reduces the risk of aquaplaning and shortens the braking distance on wet roads. For Porsche, six tire sizes with a seat diameter of 20, 21, and 22 inches are supplied.
In turn, the Continental WinterContact TS 860 S winter tires, like the SportContact 6, are designed specifically for high-performance passenger cars and crossovers. The manufacturer notes that thanks to maximum control and stability, the tires are ideal for those who prefer a sporty driving style. Additionally, the WinterContact TS 860 S is adapted for use on electric cars and can provide optimal traction when exposed to high torque, while the reduced rolling resistance extends the range without recharging. Tires in four sizes with 21- and 22-inch diameters were homologated.
In addition to the Macan, Continental tires are also installed on almost all Porsche models, including the Taycan, Cayenne, and Panamera.
