The Bridgestone Turanza T005 summer tire is one of the novelties of the Japanese brand and is offered by them as a flagship model in the "touring" segment. It is characterized by improved traction and handling on wet pavement, fuel efficiency, and a long service life. These are the same operational properties that distinguished the previous model with the T001 Evo index. In the new product, these characteristics are significantly better, which is due to the use of innovative technological solutions and materials.
Improved compound
One of such solutions is the NanoPro-Tech technology. This is the name of the polymer that is part of the rubber mixture of the tread. It enhances the molecular bonds between the other components of the compound. This significantly increases the strength of the tread on break and stretch, along with silica, reducing wear and rolling resistance. In addition, this polymer made it possible to significantly increase the proportion of silicon-containing components, thanks to which the tire grips the wet road much better, and fuel consumption decreases.
Increased resistance to aquaplaning
Another positive change compared to the previous model is the increased resistance to aquaplaning. The risk of this dangerous effect is significantly lower due to the improved drainage system. It contains many more elements, some of which have been significantly increased in size. We are talking, first of all, about longitudinal grooves in the central part and transverse grooves in the shoulder areas. This made it possible to significantly increase the amount of water that is instantly removed from under the contact patch. The efficiency of the drainage grooves is significantly increased by the numerous lamellas cut in the longitudinal ribs in the central part of the tread.
Connected shoulder blocks
The next innovation is the design of the shoulder areas of the tread. The blocks located here have been significantly increased in size. At the same time, there are special bridges between them. They limit the mobility of the tread elements, which improves a number of important properties. First of all, this is the optimization of the load distribution over the contact patch. It has become much more even, which, on the one hand, increases the stability of the coupling properties, especially when braking, improves the responsiveness of the steering, and on the other hand, reduces rolling resistance and wear.
Multifunctional lamellas
The lamellas mentioned above in the central longitudinal ribs perform other functions. One of them is the optimization of the distribution of external load over the contact patch. This is done through the location and shape of the lamellas. These slots have a significant inclination relative to the direction of movement, and their edges are beveled in such a way that the tread rib touches the road surface with the maximum possible area. This significantly reduces the abrasive effect, which increases the life of the tire.
