When developing the Bridgestone Blizzak Spike-02 winter tire, the results of the previous model's operation were taken into account, as well as the climate conditions of the countries of Northern Europe. This allowed it to have improved characteristics on icy and snowy roads, and also to increase its service life.
The key innovation was the tread pattern, which has changed significantly compared to the previous model. The central part is made in a V-shaped design and contains a large number of small blocks. The traction edges formed by them are multidirectional, which significantly increases their effectiveness on snowy surfaces.
Another change is the compound. The optimized composition and new technologies for manufacturing the rubber mixture have significantly improved almost all basic characteristics. The tread remains elastic even at very strong frosts. In addition, the updated compound is much better suited for high-speed operation, maintaining integrity under extreme loads.
The main features of the Blizzak Spike-02:
- the updated tread with a V-shaped design provides improved traction on snow;
- an increased number of lamellae;
- new studs with a core that forms longer traction edges;
- a higher silica content than the previous model;
- a reinforced sidewall design protects the tire from damage during urban operation;
- more reliable stud fixation in the tread, thanks to the changed shape of its base and mounting seat;
- a large number of multidirectional blocks in the center of the tread improves traction on snow;
- transverse blocks in the shoulder zones improve longitudinal traction and stability during maneuvering.
