The existence of the all-season tire BFGoodrich Urban Terrain T/A is due to the North American manufacturer's desire to expand the target audience of its tire products at the expense of crossover owners, who operate mainly within the city limits. In addition, when developing this model, the preferences of European motorists were taken into account, which was reflected in some design features, which will be discussed below.

A number of technical solutions were borrowed from models designed for real off-road vehicles. We are talking about a carcass that has increased resistance to impact. It is provided by the presence of additional layers in its design. Similarly, the breaker was strengthened, which gave the tire excellent reliability and increased its service life. In turn, the multitude of lamellae provides it with grip on slippery roads from snow, ice, and rain.

Although this tire has an asymmetric tread pattern, its design is largely dictated by the need to provide the tire with durability and reduced fuel consumption. The shapes, sizes, and arrangement of the tread blocks are chosen in such a way as to make the distribution of external load on the contact patch as uniform as possible, and to reduce rolling resistance.
