Tires on Hummer (Хуммер)

The Hummer car brand belongs to the North American concern General Motors. It was used in the production of pickups and SUVs from 1992 to 2010. In 2022, the brand unexpectedly returned to the car market, but not as a separate brand, but as a name for cars - a pickup and SUV with electric powertrains.

Creation History

Initially, the Hummer car brand belonged to the American company AM General, a firm that developed a line of SUVs and pickups called Humvee for the army in the late 1980s. The civilian version differed in the absence of only a small number of components, the use of metallic glossy paint coatings, as well as a number of options that increased the level of comfort - air conditioning, sound insulation, stereo system, wooden trim. To a large extent, the appearance of the brand is due to the persistence of actor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who first saw an army convoy consisting of Humvees during the filming of the movie "Kindergarten Cop". The first sales of "Hummers" began in 1992, and the first two instances of the H1 model were purchased by Schwarzenegger.

Hummer and GM

In December 1999, AM General sold the rights to the Hummer car brand to General Motors, but continued to produce cars under this brand. The new owner's area of responsibility included marketing and sales of civilian equipment released by AM General. Soon after, GM introduced two models of its own design - H2 and H3, and the original brand car was renamed H1. It was in serial production until 2006, and after that, only the Hummer H2 remained on the AM General assembly lines. In turn, the H3 was assembled at a GM plant in Louisiana, along with Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon pickups, using the same GMT-355 platform, although in a slightly modified form. In 2008, due to significant problems in the US financial system, the viability of the brand was threatened. Despite repeated attempts, GM was unable to sell this car brand, and the production of SUVs and pickups was completely curtailed by 2010.

Return

In mid-2019, rumors emerged that GM was considering the possibility of returning Hummer badges to cars in 2021. This was due to the intense growth in sales of SUVs and pickups in the North American market. The second factor was the strikes at GM plants, aimed at preserving the assembly plant in Detroit. Instead of closing it, General Motors had to look for ways to load these capacities. As a result, electric pickups and SUVs on the latest BT-1 platform went into serial production. But at the same time, the once very popular brand was downgraded to the level of model names, which were released using the GMC brand. Similar cars are offered in the Cadillac and Chevrolet product lines. GMC SUVs, like all products of this brand, are positioned in terms of equipment level between these two brands. Thanks to the standardization of platforms and components, it will not be difficult to choose tires for such equipment, especially when using the catalog of the "Mosavtoshina" online store.
