GAC Trumpchi GS8 – large crossover that was presented in Beijing in 2016. It reached the Russian market only in 2019. It was assumed to be released on the American market at the same time, but the political situation between the two countries forced a correction of plans.

Generation 1

The first generation of the car was equipped with a two-liter turbocharged gasoline engine, which produced 202 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque (for the Russian sector, it was derated to 190 horsepower). The transmission was only one - a six-speed automatic from Aisin. It provided torque transmission to either the front axle or both at the same time. That is, the car was equipped with a connectable all-wheel drive (BorgWarner clutch). The base for the car was the CPMA platform, which was a redesigned base from Fiat, namely, from 1998.

The salon has three rows of seats that can accommodate 7 people. A feature of the second and third rows is the ability to fold them into the floor to form a huge luggage compartment.

Generation 2

In 2021, the next generation started, which was built on a completely new platform. It increased in size in all parameters, which was reflected in the comfort of the cabin space. Despite the new base, the crossover structurally repeats the previous generation - the front suspension is MacPherson, the rear is a "multi-link". The dashboard is now fully digital and is implemented through a 12.3-inch screen, and a 14.6-inch monitor is provided for multimedia.

Among the equipment, we note the adaptive cruise control, which provides lane keeping, as well as the function of rebuilding, 360-degree cameras (with "transparent auto"), auto-parking, improved climate control, and others.

There are now 2 power units. A two-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with a capacity of 252 horsepower and 400 Nm. In pair with it, an 8-speed automatic is installed. There is also a hybrid - a 2-liter turbocharged engine complements one (front-wheel drive) or two (all-wheel drive) electric motors. The transmission is an electromechanical variator from Toyota.
